Mr. Arthur Ebert

Director of Bands, West Bloomfield High School

Mr. Ebert earned his Bachelors of Music from Michigan State University and his Masters of Music from Southern Oregon University. While at MSU he was trumpet section leader and President of the Spartan Marching Band, Vice President of the Mortar Board and Vice President of KKΨ. 2009 will be Mr. Ebert's 5th season as West Bloomfield High School's marching band director and 9th year as a teacher in the district. He is also Vice President of the Michigan Competing Band Association, and is the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association's District IV Vice-President for Marching Band. eberta@westbloomfield.k12.mi.us

Mr. Andy Ebert

Assistant Director, West Bloomfield High School Marching Band

Assistant Director, West Bloomfield High School Winter Drumline
Andy Ebert currently lives in Plymouth, Michigan where he works as an instructor and designer. He has a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University with a secondary education certification.  Andy is the visual caption head for the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps from Ft. Mills, South Carolina. He will be returning to this role for the 2009 season for his third year. Andy served as the visual coordinator and caption head for the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park Marching Arts Program from 2005-2007. His responsibilities include visual caption head of the fall program and director/designer for the winter percussion. Under his leadership, the PCMB enjoyed top 6 finishes in the visual caption all three of his years at the BOA Grand Nationals Competition and the Winter Percussion was promoted to World Class in their first WGI season and enjoyed a 6th place finish at WGI Finals. Andy is now happy to be the visual coordinator at West Bloomfield High School and in his first fall the band won their first State Championship in school history. He is looking forward to many successful years with this up-and-coming program. Andy is involved as a
consultant, program coordinator, and drill designer for many successful fall and winter programs across the country.

Mrs. Sarah Ebert


Assistant Director, West Bloomfield High School Marching Band

Mrs. Ebert earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from East Tennessee State University. Mrs. Ebert was a woodwind teacher with the Milford High School
Marching Band in 2003 and 2004. She first worked with the WBHS Marching Band in the fall of 2002 as a sectional teacher. In addition to working with the
WBHS marching band Mrs. Ebert teaches clarinet lessons and woodwind sectionals in the Milford area.

Mr. Joshua James


Director, West Bloomfield Jazz Orchestra
Joshua James earned his Bachelors degree in music performance (saxophone) and Philosophy from Albion College. From there, he continued his education at Wayne
State University earning his post-graduate music education teaching certification.Joshua, having worked in both the Birmingham and West Bloomfield school districts, now makes his home as the Director of Bands for St. Mary's Preparatory in Orchard Lake. In addition to his duties as a high school educator, Joshua teaches at Madonna University as an adjunct instructor in Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion pedagogy.When not teaching, Joshua continues to both perform and compose professionally for regional jazz orchestras and combos in the metro Detroit area.

Mr. Andrew Markworth


Assistant Director, West Bloomfield High School Marching Band
Director, West Bloomfield High School Winter Drumline

Andrew Markworth is a composer and arranger for Shadow Lake Music. He was the Director of Bands at Centerville High School in Centerville, OH From 2005-2008 where he has been arranging and composing for the marching band and percussion ensembles since 2002. Andrew has also arranged and composed for the following groups: Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps (2007-Present), Centerville High School (2002-Present), Senators Drum and Bugle Corps (England – 2007-Present), Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps (2008) as well as many other bands and percussion ensembles. Andrew was a member of Rhythm X Indoor Drum Line from 2003-2005 holding the position of Ensemble Leader in 2004 and 2005. Since 2006 Andrew has been the front ensemble arranger and music director and is the Ensemble director for the 2009 season. From 2001-2002 he was a member of the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps, holding the position of Percussion Captain in 2002. In 2004, he was a member of the DCI World Champion Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. In 2005 Andrew graduated from Miami University with a degree in Music Education. While there he was a member of the Wind Symphony, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, African Ensemble, Gamelan Ensemble, Taiko Ensemble, and Global Rhythms.

Mrs. Kara Markworth


Director, West Bloomfield Winter Guard

Kara Markworth is originally from Centerville, OH. After being in the color guard at Centerville High School, she continued as the weapon technician for Centerville High School color guard from 2001-2008. Kara marched two years of Drum Corps from 2001-2002 and was also a member of the Pride of Cincinnati winter guard in 2002, 2004 and 2005. While living in Centerville, Kara also worked for Winter Guard International Headquarters as the Percussion Regional Coordinator and Shipping Director from 2004-2009. She currently resides in Farmington Hills, MI.

Mr. Zach Schlicher


Battery Percussion Coordinator

Zach Schlicher has been involved with the marching arts since 1997. Upon graduation from high school in 2001, he began his drum corps career with The Cadets. He continued to perform with the corps for four years and served as the percussion section leader in his age-out season. During his time there, the percussion section earned three consecutive Fred Sanford High Percussion awards. The corps also honored Zach with a Distinguished Service award in 2003, and he was named 'Cadet of the Year' in 2004. During the academic year, Zach studied percussion at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.

Currently, Zach resides in Canton, MI where he works with the West Bloomfield High School marching band, indoor percussion ensemble and the districts percussion students (grades 6 - 12). He also instructs the Walled Lake Central High School marching band and indoor percussion ensemble. Zach has recently been hired as the percussion supervisor/snare tech and co-arranger for "Redline", the newest Independent World indoor percussion ensemble out of Michigan. The summer of 2010 will also mark his fourth season as the snare tech and second season as asst. percussion supervisor for the Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle corps. Prior to working with Crown, he was the snare tech for the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle in 2005 and 2006 and he recently held the Director of Percussion/Battery Arranger position at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham, MA.

Along with his percussion design/instruction roles with multiple ensembles, Zach performs professionally on cast with Blue Devils entertainment. He is also a proud endorser of Vic Firth sticks and mallets and Evans Drumheads.
